Coyotes' Kessel to return to Pittsburgh

Regardless of any other storylines when the Arizona Coyotes visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, the biggest is the return of sniper Phil Kessel to PPG Paints Arena.

Kessel, 32, spent four seasons with the Penguins, winning two Stanley Cups, racking up 110 goals and 303 points, and becoming something of a quirky fan favorite and locker-room comedic teddy bear.

Pittsburgh traded him to the Coyotes this past offseason.

Panarin scores winner in Columbus return

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Artemi Panarin dazzled once again in Columbus. This time he was playing for the New York Rangers.

Panarin scored the decisive goal in his return to Ohio, leading the Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets on Thursday night.

Wild edge Tampa, move to 8-0-3 last 11

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) The Minnesota Wild kept rolling along with a pair of lightning-quick responses against Tampa Bay.

Mats Zuccarello had a goal and two assists as the Wild won their fifth consecutive game, 5-4 over the Lightning on Thursday night.

'Hawks recover, snap Bruins' run in OT

BOSTON (AP) The Bruins haven't lost in regulation at home yet, and there they were trailing the Blackhawks 3-0 in the third period - Boston's first three-goal deficit of the season.

"Digging the hole 2-0, letting them score (17) seconds into the third," Bruins forward David Backes said. "It's not a recipe for success."

Isles down Vegas in OT, home streak at 7

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) In a physical game with a playoff pace, Ryan Pulock and the New York Islanders took advantage of a prime opportunity in overtime.

Pulock scored a power-play goal 3:20 into the extra session to give the Islanders a 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night.

The Canadiens goalie stopped 32 shots in his NHL debut, coming up just short in a 3-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night.

Flames hold off Sabres, 3-0 under Ward

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) It took 28 games, but Milan Lucic finally has his first goal with the Calgary Flames.

Lucic scored early in the third period to open three-goal lead, and the Flames held on to beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 Thursday night.

Stars beat Jets on Pavelski's OT goal

DALLAS (AP) The Dallas Stars didn't want to be in overtime after blowing a two-goal lead. Joe Pavelski didn't mind because he'd been there before.

Pavelski scored on the power play 2:02 into overtime and Dallas beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2. His third career overtime winner ended a four-game losing streak (0-3-1) for the Stars.

Svechnikov lifts 'Canes by Sharks in SO

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Petr Mrazek took San Jose's best shot - squarely in the chin - and it knocked him to the ice. The Carolina goalie picked himself up, and when the game was on the line, he stopped the Sharks cold.

Mrazek stuffed San Jose in the shootout and Andrei Svechnikov scored the only goal of the tiebreaker, leading the Hurricanes past the Sharks 3-2 on Thursday night.

Flames sign deal for new downtown arena

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) The Calgary Flames have a deal for a new downtown arena, a 35-year agreement that keeps the NHL club in the city for that time.

The team, the city and the Calgary Stampede rodeo signed an agreement Thursday to replace the 36-year-old Scotiabank Saddledome.
